Yes, we are back home now. Yes, we had a fun, happy trip. No, we are not cherry red and sunburned — but maybe a little tanned!

Although my family has been vacationing in Destin, FL for years and years, we never seem to tire of it. Jerry finds this amusing, but he missed the nostalgia and sentiment bits. Perhaps those memories are what keep us coming back for more, or maybe it is the sugary sand, maybe the huge selection of seafood fare, the salty topaz water, or the great shopping. I think it is all of the above, and I like it.

As for the journey there and back — long and hot! We love riding, but 350 miles in a day is a hefty endeavor, and takes a bit of a toll on the body (I know it did on mine). We took ample breaks and hydrated often, but the heat was still thick, and the roads went on and on. Still, from the comfort of an air-conditioned home, I can say the trip was very enjoyable, sticky hot, sore legs, and all.

Yes, it was hot, but I’m glad we rode. Destin is fun, but you’re right: I miss why it is an annual draw. That doesn’t matter, though. I could see that your Dad loved it; I’ve never really seen him so . . . uh, enthusiastic. A good reason to go.

However, I say we go to Italy next summer.
