Just a couple of months ago in my Sociology class, I learned about Jaime Escalante, a high school teacher in LA who changed the lives of several city kids with his groundbreaking teaching style. He was a sociological phenomenon, a dedicated student advocate, and a lighthouse for a lot of lost kids. Yesterday, he passed away at age 79. Sounds like he was inspiring people right up ’til the end, and I know his amazing story will live on.
The movie Stand and Deliver was based on his story, and I’ve been meaning to watch it one of these days. But, like blogging, things easily fall to the wayside with the end of a semester creeping in. Especially since I played & partied all weekend under the cherry blossoms. (Why does spring have to make it so hard to be productive? I just wanna frolic outside in the sun!) But I am making up for it this week. It’s crunch time!
I need to see that. Dad just sent me a link about it.
