I kicked off my vacation week with a Pinetoppers game at the historic Luther Williams field, and we beat the Warner Robins Aviators 7-2! I couldn’t have asked for better weather – though there was a rain delay (note the menacing clouds still lingering), the heat seemed to take the night off and leave us with a pleasant breeze and cooler temperatures. Unbelievable good luck, and good times.

Thanks to my family for joining me, to Jerry for being a great host to our company who arrived in my absence (sorry!), and to Macon for making this local baseball team happen. Sometimes we forget how much our town has to offer, but it was great fun to get outdoors and enjoy this opportunity.

Oh, and if you’re wondering what a pinetopper looks like, I met one : – )

Taken back in February. Slowly but surely browsing through my photos and catching up with my uploads to Flickr. The transition between computers got me a wee bit behind, but mostly due to the faulty behavior of Aperture. I am much happier with iPhoto! Sometimes I miss some of the fine tuning Aperture offered for editing, but iPhoto has everything I need, and is much more user-friendly.

Today was georgous. We spent time outdoors, walking around Downtown and admiring the almost-there cherry blossoms, even snapping a photo or two. We dined on the patio at Acapulco, then enjoyed drinks & conversation on the porch for Cocktail Hour at Dan & Monica’s. Yesterday was beautiful too – we had a lazy late lunch at Loco’s after going to the dentist together (awww), and then I retired to our patio to read in the sun. I’m soaking up as much of this spring weather as possible, because it never lasts long enough. Thanks to the three solid days of rain, everything is glowing & green. Good times.

What a sad thing…my Christmas vacation is at its end. Tomorrow morning brings a full day of classes and labs, and more than likely, an assignment or two. I have enjoyed each and every day of my beautiful freedom from the responsibilities of school, and am certainly not ready to jump back into a rigid schedule spiced with study marathons. Looking back, my holidays couldn’t have been much brighter — J. and I were able to spend most all of our break together, including a relaxed and present-filled Christmas. We also visited many of our family members for the holidays. Over the past week we have been blessed with warm afternoons to pass riding the Nighthawk, a few cherished hours of pleasure reading, and with good times spent with friends.

Obviously I have no complaints — only a lovely holiday season to tuck into my memory bank. Still, I am left wondering where all of those days and weeks went, and how it is possible that it is truly time to return to a normal work schedule. Why must free time always move at a fast-forward speed? I long to press the pause button, and soak up a few more days of fun. However, I must open the doors to my brain, and return to high-power mode. On a more optimistic note, the spring semester does pass quickly, and I have an exciting summer of traveling to look forward to. I wish you all the best, as we officially leave the holidays and 2004 behind.

They cancelled classes yesterday in preparation for more inclement weather: the bad girl Jeanne sauntered though today dumping quite a bit of rain and almost no wind. All in all, a very lame storm. Yet, I should not complain: at least we have power and, most importantly, the cable modem. A and I spent most of the day geeking, eating, and drinking. To get our blood boiling after such a non-eventful day, we finally watched Michael Moore‘s Fahrenheit 9/11. It took most of two bottles of wine to get through it, and even though it was not as polished as Bowling for Columbine, I enjoyed Moore’s irreverent look at the foibles of Dubya and his cronies. I’d write more on this, but I have to teach shortly. Let’s just say, Moore’s documentary was the storm I was looking for. Take that, Jeanne.
