November Chill

What a cold, gray day we’ve had (and I’m not just talking about the state of politics after the disappointing midterm elections). This is perfect weather for a sleepy nightshift girl, but not so much for a day full of classes, errands, and projects. The bird tree provided interesting scenery during my post-workout lunch break on campus.

Fall is Here!

Wow, got a little behind on my blogging here but that’s only thanks to staying busy in a good way. School is going well, work is still a lot of work, but I am thankful for having a good job, and Jerry & I have been on the move! We’ve just returned from enjoying a much-needed mini-vacation in the Smoky Mountains where the fall foliage was nearly in full-swing & absolutely beautiful! I’ve been doing all sorts of wonderful fall things, such as visiting Southern Belle Farm earlier this month with friends, decorating our home with pretty fall finds, trekking to the Chimney Tops for an extreme hike with extreme views, and finally making the traditional visit to the pumpkin patch in Warner Robins to pick our perfect pumpkins for the house!

I love this time of year : – )

Take Me Out to the Ballgame

I kicked off my vacation week with a Pinetoppers game at the historic Luther Williams field, and we beat the Warner Robins Aviators 7-2! I couldn’t have asked for better weather – though there was a rain delay (note the menacing clouds still lingering), the heat seemed to take the night off and leave us with a pleasant breeze and cooler temperatures. Unbelievable good luck, and good times.

Thanks to my family for joining me, to Jerry for being a great host to our company who arrived in my absence (sorry!), and to Macon for making this local baseball team happen. Sometimes we forget how much our town has to offer, but it was great fun to get outdoors and enjoy this opportunity.

Oh, and if you’re wondering what a pinetopper looks like, I met one : – )

Nesting

This little birdie has made our front porch her home while she starts a family. It’s impossible to get a picture of the baby birds since they go into hiding with the slightest bit of movement or noise, but you can see the mama bird guarding her nest here. She’s been watching our every move for quite some time now, and we enjoyed checking on this little family every day. Guess those babies got big enough to fly in the past couple of days, because now our flower basket is empty. Birdies are the only things that have ever grown in it, so I hope they’ll come back. We’ll leave the light on for ya! ; – )

Beautiful Spring

This is why I didn’t get anything accomplished last weekend when it came to being productive with schoolwork. As you can clearly see, the sun was out and the flowers were in full bloom. It was warm but not hot. The sky was clear & blue. The Cherry Blossom Festival was in full swing. It was a perfect weekend to play outside! And that’s just what I did.

Finding Wisdom in the Grocery Store

Who knew that a package of frozen dumpling could be so smart?

I didn’t buy them, if you’re wondering. But I did appreciate the good advice!

And it’s true, you should always say no to drugs. It’s so much better to be alert so you don’t miss awesome, uncommon little gems like this in everyday life!

Rise with Honor

My baby brother’s band, Rise with Honor, is awesome, and they’re gaining steam while sharing their music all over the state of Georgia. Last month Jerry & I had the pleasure of doing a photoshoot with them that is now featured on their all new & updated website. I admire Cason for what he’s doing, and while this is the same music I loved when I was the same age, he is actually making it while I just enjoyed listening to it. Rock on, little bro!

Anniversary Trip, Part 2

We got up early and braved the rain to grab some coffee & do some shopping in Savannah before making our way to our second destination, the lovely city of Charleston. The weather was far from perfect, but in truth it didn’t slow us down much at all. With Starbucks in hand (piping hot Awake tea for me, dark roast brew with raw sugar for J), we hit the road and made our way to South Carolina.

Once there, the weather improved & the clouds magically parted – a good sign for fun to come, and an even better beginning to day 2 of our trip! After checking in at our hotel, we ventured to downtown Charleston to check out Fleet Landing for lunch, as recommended by our hotel concierge. Excellent recommendation – we LOVED our meal! Very cool location, too. The restuarant was situated right on the harbor, and was converted from an old Navy building into a very cute eatery after sitting dormant for 30+ years. Try the flounder sandwich if you go! Trust us.

After eating, we wondered around downtown taking photos, window shopping, browsing through the huge open air market, enjoying a small treat from Ben & Jerry’s (ok, that last part was all me), and relaxing in a swing on the pier that overlooked the water. After a short break back at the hotel, with ample admiration of the views from the glass-walled restuarant on the top floor, we made our way back downtown for dinner – another amazing meal, this time a seafood feast at world-famous Hyman’s Seafood. We were impressed by the recommendations of my friend Christy, of Southern Living’s high ratings, and of the multiple awards emblazoned all over the front of the restuarant, and we can now join in the hype – they earned it! So, so yummy…awesome atmosphere, great food, and great menu selections with daily specials. Are you hungry yet? After dinner, we had drinks before relaxing in the room, watching goofy stuff on TV, and chatting until we fell asleep after a day of adventures.

The next day we spent more time taking in the view from the tippy-top of our hotel – especially the marina & the panoramic expanse of the Ashley River – before gathering our bags and getting back on the road. On our way out of town we stopped in at a local coffee shop called Alchemy, and I am so glad we did! Not only was the coffee excellent – mexican mocha for me, dark roast for J – but they also had so many tasty-looking homemade treats to choose from! Homemade oatmeal cream pies, granola bars, muffins, you name it. We settled for everything bagels, and took our time at a table by the window in the cute little coffeeshop. Our drive home was a safe one, but a very long one due to more rainy weather and a detour due to damage on the interstate. However, we came home with heads full of happy memories and hearts that continue to beat together after 3 great years of marriage.
